Siaya Institute of Technology Elevated to National Polytechnic

The Siaya Institute of Technology will be elevated to the status of a National Polytechnic, as announced by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on June 3, 2024. The announcement was made during the funeral of Jackson Owalo in Asembo, Rarieda Constituency, Siaya County.

CS Machogu emphasized that this elevation will bolster the capacity for training and research in technical education within the lake region, aligning with the government’s commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure. This will be the first National Polytechnic in Siaya County, fulfilling the government’s vision of establishing at least one National Polytechnic in every county.

Machogu honored the late Jackson Owalo, highlighting his role as an inspirational figure, scholar, philanthropist, and leader who profoundly impacted society. “Today we lay to rest an academic hero, with the hope that his descendants will continue his legacy by serving their communities with dedication,” Machogu remarked, while also stressing the importance of national unity.

The community mourned the loss of Owalo senior, celebrating his contributions and the lasting mark he left on the educational landscape.
